Will it work on my Mac?

Still is made for Apple Silicon Macs (M1 or later), running macOS 13 or later. This release doesn’t support Intel Macs.

Can I write on my phone?

Yes. Open Still in your browser and begin typing. The web beta includes drafts, backgrounds, real atmosphere sounds and an Inspiration Board. You can add it to your Home Screen. Your writing stays in that browser; it does not sync with the Mac app. Export a backup before clearing browser data or moving to a different browser.

Is Still really free?

Yes. Still is free to use. If you enjoy it, you can support its development through Buy Me a Coffee. That’s always optional. The support window appears at startup; switch off “Show this when Still starts” to go straight to writing.

Where does my writing go?

The Mac app saves drafts and inspiration images on your Mac. Still Web saves them in your browser and can open offline after an online visit. Neither requires an account. Export important writing for a separate backup; cloud syncing isn’t included.

Can I take my words with me?

Export text or Markdown, or use the Mac print window to save a PDF. You can also import text, Markdown and RTF files.

A small guide.

Begin wherever you are.
There’s no hurry.

01 / WRITING

Make a little room.

Open Still and begin typing. Give your draft a title if you like. Your changes save automatically on this Mac.

02 / DRAFTS

Your words, waiting.

Press ⌘L to find your drafts, or ⌘N for a new page. Search, share or move drafts to Trash from the library. Deleted drafts can be restored.

03 / ATMOSPHERE

Find a place to settle.

Open Atmosphere & Type with ⌘,. Choose a landscape, an open sky, a space scene or your own photograph. Adjust the font, size and writing width. Add a soundscape and soft keystrokes if you like.

04 / INSPIRATION

Keep an image close.

Click Inspiration Board at the bottom of the app, or press ⇧⌘I. Drag images in from Finder or use the plus button. Each draft has its own board. Browse with the arrows, drag the title to move it, and pull a corner to resize it. Press Escape to return to writing.

05 / FOCUS

A little less around you.

Controls fade while you type. Move your pointer to bring them back. Press ⇧⌘F for Focus and Escape to return. ⌃⌘F enters or leaves full screen.

06 / EXPORT

Let your words travel.

Press ⌘S to export text, or ⇧⌘S for Markdown. Use ⌘P and the PDF menu to save a PDF. An export is a separate copy; later edits in Still won’t change it.

In the app

Still saves drafts and inspiration images locally on your Mac. It works offline, with no account or cloud sync. Export a copy of important writing for your own backup.

On this website

Newsletter signup is optional. The signup form is hosted by Brevo, which processes your email address and connection information to confirm your subscription and deliver Still update emails. We do not add downloaders or app users to the list automatically. Every update includes an unsubscribe link. This page has no advertising trackers or analytics scripts. The website host may process standard connection information, such as your IP address, to deliver and protect the site.

In Still Web

Drafts and photographs are saved in this browser. Clearing its website data can remove them. Export a backup to keep a separate copy. Still Web does not upload your writing and has no active account or cloud sync.

When you choose to support

The support link opens Buy Me a Coffee. Payments and any information you enter there are handled by that service under its own privacy policy. Still does not receive your payment card details.
